Liz Lira La Rosa de Salsa- 4X World Salsa Champion

The Dance Diva talks with La Diva Latina about dancing her way into her dream house!

Liz Lira is a 4 time World Salsa Champion or is it 5 time? There are so many championships including international ones that I lost count! No help asking this dancing diva either. She says curtly and confidently, when asked how many? "All of them!" Try to probe again and La Rosa de Salsa is no withering flower. She will repeat with zest, "All of them!" If being a 4 time world champion isn't enough, she also has her dance company, Salsa Soleil. There are 3 in all Amateur, Semi-Pro and Pro.

Liz Lira is so driven by her dancing that she burned a hole in her shoe during the filming of Marc Anthony's video, Valió La Pena... She is the lead dancer dressed in red. At times, she feigns humbleness and insists that the hole in her shoes was because she was dancing on cement for the entire shooting of the video. But I insist there must have been smoke coming out those dancing shoes! Working with Marc Anthony.. was, "fun", she says. "Although he was very guarded because he had just gotten married and his wife Jennifer Lopez was there. She was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and she looked just beautiful! She was surrounded by her people because they were trying to be very careful of the press. You really couldn't get near either one of them."

The Happiest People on Earth

An international survey tried to figure out what makes people around the world happy. The World Values Survey investigated 82 countries to find happiness. Based on subjective life satisfaction and well-being surveys, in order to find happiness, "it pays to be Latin American" says Ronald Inglehart, the director of the survey. Quote from Real Simple magazine Sept 2005. Where are the happiest people in the world? From La Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico! The 2 happiest country in the world is Mexico! La Diva Latina was on location in Puerto Rico to find out from the people themselves what makes them the happiest people on earth.

Mi Viejo - the most famous Father's Day song

Mi Viejo is so popular that in Mexico alone there are about 334 versions! Mi Viejo has been interpreted by about 500 different artists all over the world- Latin America, Europe, Japan, the U.S.

Piero – José is the duo that created the paternal anthem, Mi Viejo. For about 30 years, Piero and José Tcherkaski worked together. They were united in song and in politics. The two Argentineans protested their government through song. But their biggest fame is for Mi Viejo, a song where no politics is involved. Piero says that he sang the song to his father with the ink still not dry on the paper. When he looked up he saw his father crying for the first time. He began to cry too. In typical manly fashion, his father quickly wiped his tears and said, jokingly and chidingly, "Your mama is the one who walks slow!"

Bésame Cosmetics

La Diva talks with Gabriela Hernández about her new line of make up that won't just make you beautiful –it IS beautiful!

Bésame Cosmetics created by Gabriela Hernández harks back to the 1940's, an era when chivalry was king and romanticism was an art form. Bésame Cosmetics are rich colors reminiscent of the era and the overall packaging is beautifully packaged as make-up might have been back in the 1940's and as make-up perhaps should be made now.

Is Gabriela Hernández just an old-fashioned girl at heart? Emphatically she says, "Definitely!". She explains, "I didn't leave the house until I got married!"

She is a wife, a mom, an artist, has her own design company and now … she has Bésame Cosmetics. How does she do all of that in the span of 24 hours? She laughs and truthfully declares, "I don't." Do you sleep? "Very little." But with the laughter in her voice you can tell the lack of sleep is not a problem.

She is passionate about her work and is giving all of herself to a product and an idea she believes in. She explains that her customers appreciate the time and detail. "The reward comes in when a Grandma tells me how my cosmetics were exactly how she remembers it, exactly how she used to use it."

Bésame cosmetics is manufactured and designed and sold by Gabriela. She spent 5 years preparing this line of cosmetics. She researched the era of the 1940's. She researched the colors and ingredients that were needed. "People think it's easy. That you can just get a manufacturer and say 'I want this color'. But it's not that easy. I wanted colors that work on different faces. I tested it on different people. I designed the colors. I also wanted the same scents as the cosmetics had back then. I wanted the cosmetics to be true to the era."
