Talking Race in America at Yale University

Just had lunch with the two college --
bounders and my son was super excited.  They took 2 classes. The first class they took together. My kids!  They warm my heart. The class was called RACE IN AMERICA. Wow.

So this is what happened....

Teacher: write down the name of the class only if your parents aren't sensitive.

Papito: in that case....  Give me a pen --- AND A HIGHLIGHTER!

Name of class: what's it like to be a nigger in america.

Wow.  I mean wow!  Bring it!

Read part 2....

Teacher starts start out introducing herself. She's from Nigeria. She explains that sometimes you conform to fit in. You wear your hair a certain way, you change the way you speak.  She then explains that it's a shame it has to be this way.  And that it shouldn't be this way.  But she said this last part about how you shouldn't feel you have to conform to fit in --- in her native accent!  She explains that she learned to speak like at American just to fit in.

She asks the class if they think it's necessary to fit in.

Papito answers: yes it's necessary unless you are willing to accept the consequences. So if you don't change your name when you apply for colleges then be prepared for the consequences that brings.

Teacher response: boom.
