Modern Art for Young Ones- Art, Culture, FUN! - ArtsByMia

Picasso, Keith Herring, Frida Kahlo....  sounds like an advanced college art class.  But really it's a cozy classroom filled with a children painting replicas of famous art pieces.

ArtsByMia is a session of classes taught by Mia Roman in which each class focuses on an artist or an art from.

She teaches the children about the history of the art or the artist as they paint away on the canvas she hands to them one by one with what she calls soothing music in the background.

It seems to work.  The children are quietly mesmerized and busy painting away.  Or is it Mia Roman's serenity emanating from her artful soul?  Whatever it is, ...

the children have no idea that they are actually and actively learning.

Check out Artsbymia.com and catch one of her classes.

  • Maybe the amate bark class - where the kids learn the traditional Mexican folk art made on paper made from amate bark.
  • Or try the Navajo Sand Painting class - where kids explore through visual examples and a hands on collaboration creating their very own sand paintings.
  • Or maybe try mask making class - where the students construct their very own masks utilizing elements and principles of design in a 3 dimensional form.
  • or how about the Frida Kahlo class, where the children make a rag doll and learn Frida Kahlo's story, her accident that inspired most of her work, and how she used art to heal and express herself.

The best thing about ArtsbyMia is that not only do the kids learn art, but they take home with them masterpieces they can display proudly for a lifetime!
