You say 'latte'. I say 'cafe con leche'.

Papito spent the whole day with Grandpaw and introduced his grandfather to a cup of "mocha".

My father was so pleased that he said to me, Today I drank 'mosha"  for the first time.

I had to correct him, "Papi, it's 'Mo-Ka'.

"Either way," he says,  "sabe igualito a cafe!"

That's right,  so much hoopla about STARBUCKS but really, COLOMBIANS have been doing it for years!!!

Every morning Papi has a cup of 'cafe negro' or as the Gringos would say "espresso".

I don't especially like cafe negro.  I like it with milk or "cafe con leche".  Or should I say "latte"?

Personally I always thought it strange when asked:  Do you want milk with your coffee?  DUH!

but Americans don't always use milk, they use creamers.

Well... until now of course.  Now coffee is fancy.  Thanks to STARBUCKS.

Thanks to STARBUCKS, Americans drink coffee more in line with how it should be.  More in line with the COLOMBIAN way of drinking coffee.

And Colombians have been doing it for years!!!  Just ask Juan Valdez!

Here is how ineedcoffee.com explains the STARBUCKS phenomenon:

Nothing represents coffee in the American psyche more than Juan Valdez and his mountain grown Colombian coffee. In 1959 we were introduced to the fictional character, complete with sombrero and poncho for effect, alongside his trusty donkey, or burro. Of course this marketing campaign resurrected the idea of 100% Arabica coffee, after many years of the big coffee can companies slowly slipping in more and more low quality robusta, along with the prevalence of the percolator. I think this was a good thing, and perhaps was one important step in the resurgence of specialty grade coffee in America, worthy of proper preparation. No doubt it was a great first step on a long road for American coffee drinkers in the last 50 years, piquing with none other than Starbucks coffee.
