today im talking about freedom of speech

1- employee gets fired for "like-ing" on facebook b/c judge says it is NOT protected free speech

2- twitter profile @mexxmitt gets shut down right before Mitt Romney's speech at the Republican convention

3- and this got me thinking... in a nation of freedom of speech... why do most people only speak one language???

Talk about lost in translation! When in English you say, “You look skinny”, the English response is "Thanks!” When in Spanish someone tells you , “Te vez flaca", the Spanish response is not as good. Your Latina ego is now shattered and you wondered if you should have had that second serving of arroz con pollo. “Flaca” is not a compliment. And I dare you to translate into English “Gordita”. Gordita is a compliment. Any self respecting Latina would rather be gordita than a flaca! Living Latina in the US comes with all these contradictions. So Barbara Trujillo- Gomez said it best in her introduction for her book Bárbara Por Atrás: A Latin Women’s Guide to Fitness. She says, “I will never look like those skinny models or friends for that matter because I, with pride and gratitude, am a Cuban – American woman who was blessed to be born with the asset of an ass." Cleaning and Dancing

Next on my list of decluttering is my (dusty) collection of CDs. Since now everything is downloaded! So I begin the process but my daughter has other plans! She wants to listen to all the CDs before deciding whether to throw them out or not! And of course dance and sing to them as well! So much for decluttering!!! Well, one thing is clear! I guess we're keeping the Michael Jackson CD! Rock on!
